Well, get yourself on over to The Feminist Majority Foundation and show your support for The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and The Paycheck Fairness Act (both to be voted on by the House this week).
As described at FMF’s website, “The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act corrects the Supreme Court ruling in Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. which guts the ability of women workers to sue for wage discrimination. The Paycheck Fairness Act would deter wage discrimination by closing loopholes in the Equal Pay Act and by barring retaliation against workers who disclose their wages.”
If, unlike GWBush, you are not a fan of wage discrimination, please raise your voice in support of these wage equity acts.
And, why not use this as a good reason to re-watch North Country, a film that will make your blood boil about workplace sexism/violence/injustice. (I have done an exploring search through my brain archives to think of other wage discrimination films but am drawing a blank — hey, how about Norma Rae? Readers, can you think of others? If so, please post in the comments!)
